Climbing Orchid Birthday

The two things I was most excited about in the new Stampin' Up! 2017-2018 catalog are the stamp set Climbing Orchid and the Orchid Builder Framelits Dies.  I also couldn't wait to try the Embossing Paste.  Here is my creation using all of the above.

Here is a look at the Climbing Orchid bundle.  Save 10% when you order the two items as a bundle

Climbing Orchid Photopolymer Bundle

The new Lemon Lime Twist is such a fun color!  I used Peekaboo Peach for the centers of the orchids.  The branches are stamped in Chocolate Chip.

The Embossing Paste was so easy to use and I love the results.  I used one of the Pattern Party Decorative Masks and spread the paste.  It dried very fast.  Be sure to clean your tools ASAP!

I used a stylus to add some life to the petals and I used Stampin' Dimensionals to mount the pieces together and when I added them to the card.

Later I decided to add a greeting.  I love the greetings in the set, but needed a birthday card so used a greeting from Beautiful Bouquet.  What do you think, is is better with the greeting or without?

Look what the Stampin' Up! concept artists made

Window Shopping for a Birthday Card

I have been absent from my blog.  I've been traveling but my plan was to create and blog on a regular basis.  Obviously that did not happen.  WiFi in many places was barely able to download emails and creative time was limited.  It's great to be back creating and posting!

I did manage to get this card made for my Dad.  It felt good to get my hands inky and give my Big Shot a workout.

For this card I stuck with Basic Black and Whisper White.  I used Whisper White Thick for the card base (please ignore the bent corner).  The thicker card stock makes such a difference as a card base.  I'm so excited that Stampin' Up! has added Very Vanilla Thick to the new catalog as well!

I used the candle element from the Window Box Thinlits and the Stitched Shapes Framelits to cut the  focal piece.  The Stitched Shapes Framelits cut and add a stitched look dot pattern all at once. There was a scrap piece of Gold Foil Paper on my table and I cut the candles a second time and used just the flame flames.  The Happy Birthday greeting is from the Window Shopping stamp set.  It is one of my favorite HP greetings!

I thought it needed a little something so I tied some Linen Thread onto the panel.  The card was made for my Dad and the thread seemed a more masculine touch than a ribbon.  I resisted the urge to add glitter or glimmer.  It was not easy!

Thanks for looking!  I'm anxious to show you some projects from the new catalog now that I'm home.

When you place your order for these products remember to use the June Host Code, SDNWEGE3, when placing your order.  However, if your order is $150 or more there is no need to use the code, you will qualify for free product at that point!

Be sure to check out the new catalog.  It is beautiful.

Happy stamping

Watercolor on Shimmery White

Have I mentioned that I love watercolor?  This is such a fun card to make.  Endless combos possible.

Start with a base card of Whisper White Thick, my favorite base layer now!  Cut a panel from Shimmery White Card Stock.  Shimmery White is great for watercolor and offers the shimmer and a little contrast to the stark white of the base.

I used my Aquapainter to add the watercolor wash, I think I used Pacific Point and added just a touch of Blushing Bride.  Then with my fingers I flicked some water to get the water spots.  Then used the Gold Wink of Stella to splatter the card a little with just a little more shimmer.

I stamped the thank you greeting from One Big Meaning in Memento Tuxedo Black.

The leaf is cut from a scrap of Basic Black using the Flourish Thinlits. I only put glue on the spine of the leaf and I lifted the edges a bit off the card for some dimension.

The finishing touch are some sequins from the Metallics Sequin Assortment

I'll be using this basic layout for many more cards!  I think a happy birthday one is in order.

Don't forget to check out the retiring products -- some discounted up to 50%!  While supplies last so don't wait too long.  When placing your order us Host Code 462RNRFM for orders under $150.

Happy Easter!  Thanks for looking.  What color will you use when you make this card?

Simple Thank You & Retiring Product

Before I show you my simple thank you card I want to remind you that Stampin' Up! recently announced their retiring product.  You can see the lists here.  These products go quickly.

Now, here is my simple thank you.   I used one of the texture stamps from Timeless Textures.  Stamped it straight edge up, and again straight edge down leaving a little white space in the middle for the thank you from One Big Meaning.  I inked the texture stamp with Watermelon Wonder, stamping off once.  Stamped it onto Shimmery White.  Watermelon Wonder Ink Pad is still available while supplies last.  Be sure to pick up the refill too -- very low inventory on that.

I stamped the greeting in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

I added a few rhinestones and layered the Shimmery White layer onto a Whisper White Thick card.

The hardest thing about this card was lining up the two texture images.  I usually eyeball pretty accurately but I had to use my Stamp-a-ma-jig and that made it so much easier.

Thanks for looking!  When ordering product from my website be sure to use my April Host Code, 462RNRFM, when placing orders less than $150.

Feeling Tip Top Taupe!

Okay, you might know that I love neutrals so I jumped at the chance to participate in a Tip Top Taupe & Whisper White Color Challenge. I cannot explain my love of a neutral combo but it makes me happy!

The card stock base is Tip Top Taupe cut 4 1/4" x 8 1/2". Add a Whisper White layer.  On top of that use the Sunburst Thinlits Die cut from Tip Top Taupe.

I used my Clear Wink of Stella on one edge the "bursts" to add some contrast and shimmer. Using the Badges and Banners stamp I stamped the banner and the No 1 circle image in Tip Taupe Taupe ink.  The banner image was stamped off once.  Both images were punched out.  I used the Best Badge and the 1 3/8" Circle punches and layered the circle image onto a Whisper White circle cut from the Layering Circles Framelits.  The Badges and Banners is available along with the Best Badge punch as a Bundle and you save 10%!  Such a deal.

Adhere the punched badge then use Dimensionals to add the circle.  I tucked some Silver Metallic Thread behind the badge and added a few Rhinestones to finish it off.

Not too fussy so I think this would work great for guys!

Don't forget that there is only about a week left for Sale-a-bration, when you get free product with every $50 purchase.  Shop online and be sure to use my March Host Code P2EUH6EX when ordering.  When your order is $150 or more you do not need the host code.

Cool Treats

Finally getting some time to play with some of the products in the Occasions Catalog.

Cool Treats just makes me happy looking at the set.  While I think of bright colors when I see it, I used the Frozen Treats Dies to make a simple white on white background.  I love the Cool Treats bundle!

I used the greeting from Layering Love, stamped first in Peekaboo Peach, then off-setting it slightly restamped the image in Calypso Coral that had a little Versamark on the lower part of the greeting.  After stamping I embossed that lower portion with Gold Embossing Powder. This is the Partial Embossing Technique. It's a fun one!

The base layer is Calypso Coral  as is the layer behind the greeting.  I stamped one of the popcicle elements in Calypso Coral, added a Crumb Cake stick and a few rhinestones.

When you place your order from my online store be sure to use the Host Code P2EUH6EX for orders under $150 in product.  It's Sale-a-bration time and you can choose a free item for each $50 in product you order.  Sale-a-bration is the perfect time to become a demonstrator, join for $99 and you get to choose TWO additional stamp sets of any value.

Valentine Canvas

Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  I needed just a little accessory to put on my stack of books to finish off my decor.  I remembered the little canvas squares I bought earlier in the year and in no time at all I had this piece finished.

I cut the heart and the word love from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits set using red glimmer paper.  It needed something and I had this flower that I made (using the retired Spiral Flower Die) some time ago from a thrifted red cashmere sweater.  I added it and voila – done!

It was just the right touch to put on my stack of books

Heads up – there will be 3 new Sale-a-brations items available on February 21.  Demonstrators get to preorder them so I expect to have them in my hands soon.  Watch for more info as the release date approaches.

Thank You Sale-a-bration!

I needed a few thank you notes quick.  I reached for the bold Thank You from the Sale-a-bration set So Very Much.  You can't buy it, but you can get it free with a $50 Stampin' Up! product purchase.

I started with a panel of Shimmery White and stamped the "splat" from Happy Celebrations, from the new Occasions 2017 catalog, with Calypso Coral, then without re-inking I stamped it again and yet again for the ombre effect.  The Thank You was stamped over that in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

I added a few White Perfect Accents.  They are flatter than pearls so mail better.  Added the panel to a layer of Calypso Coral then put that onto a base of Whisper White.

Wish you could see the shimmer of the paper!  You can have several of these cards made in no time at all!

Thanks for looking.  If you are purchasing product from my online store remember to use the January Host Code TXXBGCTR for orders less than $150.  Remember, it's Sale-a-bration (SAB) time – you get a free SAB item with every $50 in product.

Another Year Full of Adventures Birthday Card

The new Occasions Catalog has a great bundle, Balloon Adventures,  for making fun and fast birthday cards.  The greeting I use on this card is my favorite and is going to get a lot of use!  I paired it with the Pretty Paisleys embossing folder, which just this moment I realize is RETIRED.  Oh well...they pair together well, but I'll have to rework the card using only current product.  The person I give this to will not care.

I stamped the greeting in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, my go to ink when I'll be watercoloring.  I used the new Watercolor Pencil in Melon Mambo to color in the "another year" words.  I was going for an ombre look so I colored darker at the top and left the bottom part uncolored.  Then I used a Blender Pen to blend a pull a little color to the bottom of the letters.

I stamped the polka dot balloon in Melon Mambo onto Vellum Card Stock and embossed it with Clear Embossing Powder, punched it out with the coordinating Balloon Bouquet punch.  Tied some White Bakers Twine onto the balloon and used my favorite Clear Wink of Stella to give some shimmer to the balloon an the words I colored and then added a few rhinestones.

I layered the card front onto a panel of Melon Mambo card stock and then onto a base card of Whisper White Thick.

When shopping online be sure to use my January host code when placing orders of less than $150.  Over $150 you get free stuff!

Want to get a discount on all your supplies?  Ask me about being a demonstrator – it's easy, start by getting $125 in product for $99 then there is no further commitment if you choose not to continue.

Wedding DIY Paper Flower Backdrop & it's Sale-a-bration Time!

Phew  -- what a few weeks it has been.  I've been MIA from my blog and it's good to be back.  What have I been up to?  Well, there was Christmas then straight into wedding prep.  My niece asked my sisters and I to help with centerpieces and some decor for her January 7 wedding.  She had a clear idea of what she wanted for the tables.  We showed her a paper flower backdrop and she LOVED it.  It is a project that I've wanted to do for sometime -- this was THE time to do it.  Here it is before we moved it to the venue.  Read to the bottom for some Stampin' Up! new catalog info!

I purchased some patterns on Etsy and decided on the paper.  One of my favorite papers is the Shimmery White Card Stock.  I would have loved to use that but I wanted a text weight and a variety of whites so I went on a search to find something similar.  I found Curious Metallic Cryogen White, and 2 Stardream Metallics -- Crystal and Opal.  All in an 80# or 81# text weight.  The crystal is white, the cryogen white is just a bit creamy, the opal should be called champagne! I purchased them all from Paper-Papers.  I will say that I experimented with inexpensive bond paper in the heaviest weight I could find and I was pleased with the look, but I really wanted the shimmer.

Here is how we put it all together.  My brother (father of the bride) made the frames -- we gave him the size (3 sections 8' tall x 30" each) and he did a beautiful job.  We covered them with an inexpensive fabric.

We stretched it as tight as possible and stapled the fabric to the frame.

Mitered the corners as neatly as possible

3 panels covered -- they were so beautiful we thought they were gorgeous on their own!

But we had many many paper flowers so we started by adding the largest then added medium then small and finally fit some more small filler flowers in the places we felt the hole was too big.  We attached the flowers with industrial strength velcro.  It worked perfectly but you do need to really burnish the part to the fabric or it wants to fall off.  Also, we put the velcro in the middle of the flower -- works great when the panels are laying flat, but stand them up right and the flowers droop, so if you do this put the velcro at the top of the flower.

Here it is again before it was transported to the venue.  My brother built a frame with slots to put in a uHaul to transport it safely from Portland to Salem.

Once at the venue we used two of the panels on either side of the podium where the bride and groom would be standing.  It was a little short so we made a makeshift stand with bins the plates arrived in and extra tablecloths and we thought it looked even better.  (There were some flowers scattered at the bottom, but they had yet to be placed in this photo)

Here is a picture of the centerpieces we did.  The greens and twigs were all gathered from our family homes by my nephews.  Added pinecones candles in clear vases and a couple of paper flowers with navy pom pom centers.  All that was layered over a simple brown paper runner.  We did about 40 of these tables!

In another area we hung these simple canvas frames with paper flowers and some flat back pearls glued on.  I think the canvases are 16x20.  I love the elegant simplicity of these.

We made 5 of these "chandeliers" -- inexpensive wreath frames covered with boxwood.  We hung crystals from wire that was added to the wreath frame in a grid pattern.  Hung them with satin ribbon in the corner where the buffet was set up.

Not sure if you can see the twig tree with crystals hanging from it but it was a last minute thought to make.  This also shows the 3rd panel that stood between the gift table and the seat assignment table til the ceremony was over.

And here is the beautiful bride and handsome bridegroom.  They loved the flower wall and that made me happiest.

We have been asked "how long did it take".  We didn't keep track, but it was countless hours.  We had a cutting party before Christmas.  My sister and I each made some smaller flowers before Christmas.  Then starting New Years Day we really buckled down.  My dad and mom cut flowers, my sister's DIL helped a lot, my brother cut flowers.  While cutting was going on some of us started putting them together.  We made some beautiful centers -- pearls, tulle, satin tiny paper flowers attached with pearl head pins.  I failed to take pictures of those centers but you might be able to seem some in this photo.

Perhaps we could have done it if the 3 of us had worked for a week and did nothing else but sleep and eat a quick bite.

We were also asked if we would loan/rent the wall out.  No -- I am taking a panel to Idaho, one sister is taking one to Canada, and the 3rd will stay with my niece.  I think I'll hang mine horizonally on a wall, or maybe lean it against a wall.  Sadly it is staying with my brother for now.  My husband and I had to rush home -- snow and ice were closing the roads between Portland and Boise. We hoped to make it through, but the highway closed.  We took a long treacherous detour, making it home safe and sound at 3 am -- normally an easy 7 hour trip took us 13 hours.

So, that's what I've been up to.  I'm hoping to get back in the swing of stamping.  THERE IS A NEW OCCASIONS CATALOG and it's Sale-a-bration time so it's the best time to shop.  You get to choose a free item from the Sale-a-bration catalog with every $50 product purchase, nope, there is NO limit on the number of free things you can get.
